The UK water industry is working with UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR) and the Carbon Trust to design and implement an updated common carbon-accounting tool. Although the water industry was one of the first industries to voluntarily report its energy use and greenhouse-gas emissions, it recognises that its approach has not kept pace with changing demands for environmental information, particularly its failure to include in reports the implications of carbon in corporate decision making.
